Summary

The year 1812 saw the United States once again on the brink of war with Great Britain. Caught in Britain's ongoing battle with Napoleonic France, the United States found its ports blockaded and its sailors pressed into service aboard British vessels. War of 1812, Revised Edition recounts the young nation's heroic campaign to beat back one of the most powerful military forces in the world-and rid America of foreign powers once and for all.

Author Biography

Miriam Greenblatt holds a B.A. in political science and economics from Hunter College in New York City and a teaching certificate from Spertus College and performed graduate work in political science and economics at the University of Chicago. She is a freelance writer and has written or coauthored numerous books on history, including young-adult biographies of John Quincy Adams and Franklin D. Roosevelt and history books at both the junior high and high school levels. General editor John S. Bowman received a B.A. in English literature from Harvard University and matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, as Harvard's Fiske Scholar, as well as at the University of Munich. In addition to editing the Chronology of Wars in the America At War set, he is the general editor of the other 13 volumes. He has worked as an editor for almost 50 years and as a freelance writer for almost as long. Bowman has edited some 20 works on wars and military history and another 15 on general history. Among the other projects he has edited are Facts About America's Wars, World Almanac of the Vietnam War, The Civil War Almanac, and Almanac of American History.
